Let's Talk Trash

On Curaçao an average person generates 1 kilo of trash a day. That adds up to an astounding 150 tons a day and 54.750 tons per year. However, trash doesn’t just happen. Both small and large decisions that are made on a daily basis all contribute to the large quantities of trash that need to be dealt with somehow.

So what’s the big deal?
If we simply pile up all our trash, our beautiful island will be covered in trash in no time! That’s not only unsightly, it’s also very unhealthy. It’s therefore imperative to have waste management policies in place. Waste management is the handling of discarded materials. That includes transforming waste into useful products, for example, through recycling and composting, as well as disposing of waste through landfills.

Proper waste management requires knowledge and expertise. And that’s where Selikor comes in. Selikor is the largest waste management company on Curaçao and one of the main objectives of the company is to contribute to a clean and healthy environment using an integrated approach to managing waste.
